As I sat down this morning to complete #StayHomeSA Day 9 post (technical glitches), and get a head start on day 10, something dawned on me. How often do we as coaches, and business advisers guide our friends and clients to identify their purpose before anything else? Purpose has become a buzz word in personal development circles that makes everyone sound like an expert.
To be politically correct we tend to follow set "ethical" steps and procedures to guide our clients through the process of self-discovery. This can take two to three sessions, billed by the hour.
In reality, it is much easier than that. Don't believe me? Let's follow these simple steps. Close your eyes… hang on! Finish reading, then close your eyes.
Take a deep breath. In… and out… one more time in… and out… with your eyes closed, say after me…
My Lord, and Heavenly Father, I surrender all that I am to You. I open my heart and my mind, and I humble myself before You. Lord I seek Your will in my life. Lead me Father and reveal to me Your will for my life. Awaken in me a burning desire to honour You with my life, and to glorify Your Holy name with my actions. Amen.
In Psalm 139, King David sings of how intimately God our Father knows us. He knows our path (our future, our purpose). He knows every word before we speak it. And this ALL from before we even existed!
Even before we were born, in our mothers' wombs, God formed us and already knew us. This doesn't simply mean that He knew what your name would be, and what you would look like. He knew it ALL. Your every step. Every word. Every Sin. And yes, your purpose that your heart would be filled with.
That means that from that miraculous
moment when you started forming inside your mother, your purpose was already a part of you. Doesn't that explain then why so many people on earth today are unhappy? They were born with this amazing purpose that in its simplicity would glorify our Creator, and yet decided to follow man in discovering their purpose. With all their money and earthly possessions, there is always something missing. Does it not explain why we feel so passionate about some things in life? How, when we unknowingly live in our purpose, it comes so naturally to us and brings us joy beyond words, even if it does not make us rich.
Finding your purpose does not need to cost you an arm and a leg. All you need is to be sensitive to The Holy Spirit. Listen! Feel… When you get those gentle nudges that push you in a certain direction, follow them. Too often we try to reason these away as silly fantasies, and wishful thinking. God knows best! For once, just surrender, take a back seat and be led.
One of my favourite songs is Background by Lecrae. The lyrics are profound, but this part stands out to me today…
I know I
'm safest when I'm in Your will, and trust Your Word
I know I'm dangerous when I trust myself, my vision blurred
And I ain't got no time to play life's foolish games
Got plenty aims, but do they really Glorify Your name?
And it's a shame, the way I want to do these things for You, yet
Don't even cling to you, take time to sit and glean from You
It seems like You were patient in my ignorance
If ignorance is bliss, it's 'cause she never heard of this
Isn't that so true for each and every one of us? We are always trying so hard. We pursue our ideas of a perfect life, yet somehow it almost always ends in pain and frustration. The irony is that we end up angry at God, for not letting us succeed!
God will never lead us to heartache and failure. If we follow Him on the path he so graciously sets before, we will live our purpose.
Have a blessed Sunday.
